Wedge Networks Selected by the Eureka CELTIC-NEXT SUSTAINET Project to Advance AI-Driven, Resilient and Secure Edge Networks

January 14, 2026

Wedge Networks, a leader in AI-driven, resilient and secure edge networks, has been selected by the consortium of organizations participating in the Eureka CELTIC-NEXT SUSTAINET Project to advance the autonomous management and real-time protection of intelligent edge networks.

CALGARY, January 14, 2026 – Wedge Networks has been selected by the consortium of organizations participating in the Eureka CELTIC-NEXT SUSTAINET Project to advance the autonomous management and real-time protection of intelligent edge networks.

Eureka is the world’s largest intergovernmental network supporting market-driven research, development and innovation. It brings together national ministries and funding agencies from more than 45 countries, including the European Commission, to foster international collaboration among businesses, universities and research organizations. In Canada, the National Research Council Canada (NRC) serves as Eureka’s national office. The National Research Council Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) supports the participation of Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through advisory services, funding and partnership development opportunities. Broader engagement of Canadian innovators is also enabled through other national funding partners and participation in Eureka cluster initiatives such as CELTIC-NEXT.

CELTIC-NEXT is the Eureka community of organizations focused on next-generation communications for a secured, trusted and sustainable digital society. Within the CELTIC-NEXT cluster, the SUSTAINET project has been established to develop sustainable technologies for advanced resilient and energy-efficient networks.

Wedge Networks has received advisory services and funding up to CAD $500,000 from NRC IRAP to participate in the guarDian pillar of SUSTAINET and to support research initiatives powered by the company’s WedgeSecure Platform, a resilient and intelligent security platform for distributed edge computing ecosystems. The company’s participation in SUSTAINET will span 3 years.

Specific vectors of Wedge Networks research will include:

  • Real-time protection of intelligent edge networks
  • Autonomous anomaly detection, especially in the agentic AI context
  • Resilience and high availability
  • Cloud orchestration and operational efficiency
  • Network-as-a-sensor and sustainability KPIs
  • Scale and multi-tenancy readiness

Wedge Networks CEO, Dr. Hongwen Zhang, highlighted the importance of SUSTAINET stating, “Three forces are reshaping the edge: the rapid growth of AI-powered autonomous systems, the convergence of cyber and physical worlds into ‘smart everything,’ and an explosion of edge technology that will soon connect trillions of devices. These same forces also expose critical infrastructures to new risks: a detection-after mindset where damage is already done when threats are discovered, cloud-centric enforcement that leaves threats rampaging at the edge, and a lack of sovereign digital infrastructure that amplifies supply-chain risk.”

“Through SUSTAINET, and working with like-minded partners in the consortium, we will advance our patented, innovative WedgeSecure Platform SASE architecture to deliver real-time threat prevention, enable predictive maintenance of edge systems, automate the implementation of compliance controls, and provide security for emerging agentic AI applications.”

SUSTAINET guarDian pillar coordinator Christoph Lipps of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz or DFKI) remarked on the valuable contributions of Wedge Networks and other Canadian companies to the project stating, “We are very pleased to welcome Wedge Networks to the SUSTAINET consortium. SUSTAINET brings together European and Canadian partners to build resilient, energy-efficient and secure communication infrastructures for an AI-driven, all-electric, hyperconnected society. Within the guarDian pillar, Wedge Networks will help advance intelligent defence and orchestration — fusing telemetry, forming actionable cyber intelligence, and coordinating policies across cloud and edge — and will demonstrate AI-driven, real-time threat prevention and autonomous protection mechanisms that safeguard critical infrastructures at the network edge.”

Some 40 partners from Canada, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Sweden and Switzerland are now active participants in the SUSTAINET guarDian project.
